Rum cocktails have a reputation of being on the sweet side and having a tropical connotation to them. There are some very good sweet rum drinks but one of my favorite is the Hemingway Special.

Or check out Jeff "Beachbum" Berry's books for classic Tiki-drink recipes of the past (and some new ones). Not all are rum but most, of course are.

Caipirinha is made with cachaca, not rum! they might both be spirits made from sugar cane, but have a very different taste!
I completely agree that it has a very different taste from rum. This post was before I was educated on cachaca.
